Abstract
Silicoflagellates, rare planktonic algae, were registered in bloom-like conditions in the 20-m-deep bottom layer of the Gulf of Trieste, Northern Adriatic. The confusing taxonomy and ecology of these phytoflagellates, as well as their possible contribution to the oxygen depletion of the bottom layer, is discussed. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
