Abstract
Health practices existing prior to the establishment of rural health centers were studied by representative sampling and by observation. Data reported include practices relating to water, use of soap, and occasions for washing hands. Problems of obtaining reliable quantitative data are cited. One conclusion is that installation of suitable facilities is a prerequisite to improved practices and to health education. Another conclusion is?that ethnographic observation is essential as a check on the reliability of quantification by questionnaire, especially in a culture not yet habituated to the imperatives of accurate responses to questionnaires and still emphasizing politeness as a dominant cultural norm. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
