SIMULTANEOUS SURFACE EXCHANGE STUDIES USING BOTH CATION AND ANION

Abstract
Labelled Sr++ and SO4= have been used simultaneously to measure the apparent surface area of a SrSO4 precipitate by the direct radioactive method. The values found differ by about 90%. By contrast, when labelled Pb++ and SO4= are used to measure the apparent surface area of PbSO4, the values found are in close agreement. The results are discussed with reference to the kinetics of surface exchange reactions.
