Abstract
Electron micrographs of kaolinite particles that were boiled in 3.6 N HC1 for various times suggest that acid attack is primarily an edge attack, and that it proceeds from the edges inward. The micrographs also show that silica skeletons remain, as the octahedral cations are removed and that these skeletons can be quite stable.
