Abstract
A qualitative and quantitative method for the determination of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) in urine is presented: These methods are based on the color complex formed by 5-HIAA with nitrous acid and 1-nitroso-2-napthol. The qualitative method provides a simple and specific secreening test while the quantiative test, although specific, needs refinement in technique to increase the percentage of recovery. Keywords
