Abstract
Rats and guinea pigs injd. with propylene glycol showed a uniform increase in hematocrit but no increase in methemoglobin. p-Chloroacetanilide dissolved in propylene glycol produced methemoglobinemia in both spp.; to a greater extent in the rat than in the guinea pig. p-Chloroacetanilide in aqueous suspension increased the methemoglobinemia in both spp.; the increase much more pro-nounced in the rat than in the guinea pig. Results attributed to a compound administered in propylene glycol soln. should be carefully interpreted since the propylene glycol may have a marked physiological effect. Keywords
