Abstract
Continuing poor vaccination cover in England and Wales prompted a national survey of pre-school vaccination programmes of health districts. Good performance was achieved by some districts with high social deprivation, and vice versa. Vaccination coverage was not related to levels of health visitor provision. Although many districts had computerized record systems, they were not being used to their full advantage. In-service training and other support for service providers, especially general practitioners, was inadequate in many districts. Keywords
