Object Shape, Fringe Visibility, And Resolution In Far-Field Holography

Abstract
The resolution in the image reconstructed from a far-field hologram is dependent upon recording the interference fringes within the envelope of the far-field pattern. The fringes are discussed in terms of their visibility and are used to show that the resolution is ultimately dependent upon the shape of the object rather than its size. Examples of spherical, square and rectangular particles are discussed in order to demonstrate this point.
