Abstract
Magnetic circular dichroism for a fundamental vibrational excitation of an achiral molecule has been measured for the first time. The observed spectra for the CH stretching region of CH3I, (CH3)4Si, (C5H5)2Fe, Ch3CN, C6H6, and C6H12 are dominated by low intensity, single‐signed features analogous to MCDB terms. These results differ from what would be expected based on previously published theoretical models and may imply that the observed vibrational MCD is due to mixing of electronic states. Keywords
