Abstract
This is an account of discussions about several different moral issues connected with obtaining kidneys for transplantation. The research was carried out in schools as a part of the Discussion of Issues in School Science (DISS) project which is concerned with how our pupils use information derived from school, video, and other informal sources in small group discussions. The paper describes how the information received was tempered by trust, by moral and ethical positions, and by feelings for their own families. The paper ends with some observations on how biology teachers might use this sort of discussion in their own lessons and on what extra biological information the pupils in this study seemed to need. Keywords
