Abstract
A “vicious triangle” links infantile diarrhea to brain damage, malnutrition to diarrhea, and may account for mental retardation among children far more frequently than is generally recognized. Much more research is needed to clarify the interrelated pathogenetic mechanisms of the triad, says Dr. Nelson, including research into the role of even relatively mild or marginal malnutrition. Keywords
