Abstract
Tropilidene (cyclohepta-1,3,5-triene) has a single-dose acute oral LD50 of 57 mg/kg in rats and 171 mg/kg in mice. The acute percutaneous LD50 to rats lies between 442 and 884 mg/kg. Sublethal doses caused bodyweight losses in both species. The chemical is a severe primary irritant to skin but is not a sensitizer. The vapours are lachrymatory but the liquid did not damage the eyes. Care in handling is advocated. Keywords
