Abstract
Ultrastructural localization of bromine and iodine by X-ray microanalysis was carried out in 3 Laminaria spp. Marked differences in the localization of these elements between different species were found. Within a single species, seasonal and age differences in the accumulation of I and Br could be seen. In stipes of L. digitata (Huds.) Lamour., collected in Feb., I was found in semi-dense, physode-like cytoplasmic vesicles. Also the physodes in old (but not in young) stipes of L. saccharina (L.) Lamour. contained I or Br, in contrast to corresponding structures of L. hyperborea (Gunn.) Fosl., where neither element could be detected. I or Br could be found in the outer cell wall of all 3 Laminaria spp. This publication has 23 references indexed in Scilit:
