A Survey of Management Science Implementation Problems

Abstract
An increasing amount of attention has been directed to problems associated with the implementation of Management Science methods. This attention is undoubtedly due to a relatively poor performance record, since it has been estimated that only about 40% of Management Science projects are ever fully implemented. Numerous articles have been written about the implementation problem. Some are based upon “undocumented wisdom;” that is, nonempirically based observations about the problem. Others have been written by practitioners who describe the problem as they perceive it. A smaller number of articles are based upon survey data.
