Abstract
A frequently voiced objection to screening programs for hypertension is fear of "overloading the system"—i.e., if less than 10 per cent of the estimated 23 million hypertensive patients are currently under care, who is going to treat these newly discovered patients, and where are they going to be followed? Doctors' offices are overcrowded, and the situation in clinics is even worse.
