Abstract
A 3-year study was made of the spring migration of the six-spotted leafhopper (Macrosteles fascifrons (Stål)) in the Western Great Plains States, which comprise the western edge of tile migration path of this insect in the Central United States. This study shows that this spring migration is the source of summer infestations in vegetable and ornamental plantings in the Western Great Plains. The movement occurs rapidly beginning in late March or early April in northern Texas and progresses to Montana and North Dakota by early June. Small grain crops are the main food plants during this migration; but when these crops begin to reach the heading stage, leafhoppers move to other hosts, including aster yellows-susceptible vegetable and ornamental crops. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
