Studies on the steroidal components of domestic plants. Part LIV. Synthesis of isodiotigenin

Abstract
Diotigenin (I), isolated from the Dioscorea tenuipes complex is deduced to be a 2β,3α,4β-trihydroxy-5β,25L-spirostan. In order to confirm this structure, 2β,3α,4β-trihydroxy-5β,25D-spirostan was synthesised from the naturally occuring yonogenin (III), and was found to be identical with isodiotigenin (II) obtained on isomerisation of (I).
