Abstract
A theory of nonlinear commutating machines is presented that is applicable to all machines whose inductance coefficients are restricted to single-valued nonlinear functions of the electric currents in addition to the brush and rotor positions. The development is suggested by elementary Finsler theory. With this new approach, machine equations are easily derived in terms of functions which can be firmly related to the electrical-mechanical structure and the terminal characteristics. The theory is applied to a representative nonlinear commutating machine to illustrate its use. Keywords
