Possible climatic implications of depletion of Antarctic ozone

Abstract
The total amount of ozone overhead in late winter and early spring has decreased considerablyduring the past decade. Recent satellite data confirm that the column abundances of ozone atAntarctica are among the lowest recorded anywhere on the globe. Our radiative-convectivemodel calculations demonstrate that this depletion of Antarctic ozone could lead to a surfacecooling of about 0.47°K which is in contrast to that observed from climatological temperaturerecords. This calls for a detailed investigation of the air chemistry in relation to dynamicradiativebalance for the Antarctica atmosphere. DOI: 10.1111/j.1600-0889.1987.tb00103.x
