Neonatal Fits Associated with Hypomagnesaemia

Abstract
The case of a newborn infant with persistent convulsions associated with low serum Ca and Mg levels is described. Mg deficiency in the mother, as a result of celiac disease, together with a diet of cows'' milk containing vitamin D are suggested as factors in the baby''s hypomagnesemia and hypocalcemia. Evidence is presented suggesting that the baby was deficient in parathormone and that a low serum Mg level was a cardinal factor in the etiology of the convulsions.
