Effect of Escherichia coli Endotoxin on Temperature and Sleep Cycles of Rats

Abstract
The lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli injected intravenously into rats induces dose-dependent changes of temperature and marked disturbances of sleep cycles. The changes in sleep cycles are characterized mainly by a depression of the total time of paradoxical sleep and seem to be related to the degree of endo-toxin-induced fever.
