Abstract
Summary: Detailed studies show that five different facies and two marked faunal breaks occur in the D Beds of the Speeton Clay. These beds have a maximum thickness of forty-seven feet and include three Lower Cretaceous stages. Examination of the fossil distribution and sediment mineralogy leads to the conclusion that deposition in this area was slow and subject to interruption during the early part of the Cretaceous period and that the sea was shallow and probably warm.
