A tannin from the Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica) with a protective action on ascorbic acid

Abstract
The atmospheric oxidation of ascorbic acid in the press-juice of the fruits of the Indian gooseberry is considerably slower than that of a solution of ascorbic acid at the same pH. This is apparently due to the protective action of one of the 2 tannins which has been isolated from the press-juice of the fruit.
