Mass spectra of organoaluminium compounds

Abstract
The mass spectra of Me3Al, Me2AlH, Et3Al, Et2AlH, and Et2AlOEt have been examined at source temperatures between 40 and 200°. Except for Et3Al all the compounds show either dimeric or trimeric ions at low source temperatures. Comparative abundance studies on Me3Al and Me2AlH reveal that the latter disproportionates thermally to Me3Al even at 100°. For (Et2AlOEt)2 most of the ion current is carried by associated species.
