Finding black families for black children in care: A case study

Abstract
The article describes a project run by Lambeth Social Services and the Independent Adoption Services (IAS) with the purpose of finding substitute homes for black children in care. The project, known as ‘New Black Families’, was highly successful and served to motivate greater effort on the part of Lambeth itself and other local authorities and voluntary agencies to increase their recruitment of black families. However, the project highlights the difficulties of sustaining the collaboration between a large bureaucratic body and small voluntary organisation beyond an initial period.
