Abstract
Some of the difficulties encountered in adapting a Lozier-type ionization chamber for cross section measurements are described, and methoda indicated by which they may be overcome. In particular, the errors arising from elastic scattering of electrons and the subsequent increase in effective electron path length, and from the different collection efficiencies for positive and negative ions, are dealt with. Finally some positive ion cross section measurements in methane are described. Keywords
