Abstract
LY 127935 is a new semisynthetic β-lactam antimicrobial agent. Its activity was compared to that of cefotaxime, cefamandole, cefoxitin, cefazolin, cephalothin, piperacillin, ticarcillin, carbenicillin, ampicillin, gentamicin, and amikacin. The activity of LY 127935 was similar to that of cefotaxime but Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter spp. were more susceptible to cefotaxime. Both drugs had a moderate degree of activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and no activity against Streptococcus faecalis. The other β-lactam compounds had more limited spectra of activity but each was more effective against specific micro-organisms. Many aminoglycoside-resistant strains were susceptible to the newer β-lactam compounds. Keywords
