Abstract
The world's first highly integrated silicon–germanium IC – a 1.0 GHz 12-bit digital-to-analogue converter – was unveiled by researchers from IBM and Analog Devices in December. The device is an order of magnitude faster then currently available converters. The companies also announced the first step towards commercially available high-performance silicon–germanium heterojunction bipolar transistors. Under a new agreement, a range of ICs for radio-frequency and mixed signal applications, designed by Analog, will be manufactured by IBM. The first devices are due on the market this year. Keywords
