Abstract
A questionnaire was developed to determine in what manner mothers of hospitalized children and pediatric nurses perceived what the mother staying with her hospitalized child would have liked her own role with the child to be. A questionnaire listing 30 child care items was administered to 50 registered nurses and to 50 mothers staying with their hospitalized children. There was much disparity of opinion expressed by the mothers and by the nurses with regard to a number of child care Items. Statistically significant differences in the responses of mothers and nurses were found with regard to nine child care items. Inspection of these items suggested that in most Instances the mothers preferred to be responsible for more aspects of their child's care than the pediatric nuises realized. Keywords
