MYELOMATOSIS WITH XANTHOMATOSIS

Abstract
Previously reported information regarding lipid disturbances in myeloma is reviewed. The case of a patient presenting the clinical picture of multiple myeloma as well as hyperlipidema and skin xanthoma is recorded. Some of the known and theoretic relationships between elevated serum lipids and hyperglobulinemia relating to the patient are discussed. It is postulated that in certain cases of myeloma, the plasma cells may directly produce abnormal lipid fractions, or that a sufficiently abnormal lipid-binding protein is secreted to account for serum lipid aberrations sometimes in the disease.
