Methodological Aspects of the Design and Conduct of Preventive. Trials in Ischaemic Heart Disease

Abstract
This paper discusses three points relevant to methodological aspects of preventive or intervention trials in ischaemic heart disease: (i) the selection of an appropriate population group; (ii) changes in risk factor levels; and (iii) an approach to evaluate intervention programmes. Some preliminary findings are presented from a feasibility study in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, where the risk factors were blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose tolerance and the Intervention measure was drug treatment. An attempt to construct a general evaluation model is also described without any supportive findings.
