Abstract
A collection apparatus was developed to procure quantitative recoveries of urine from male cattle while they grazed pasture or range. The apparatus consisted of a modified harness to support the urinal as well as a standard feces bag. The urinal consisted of four functional parts. (1) a false collection sheet, (2) a urine collection compartment, (3) two drain valves, and (4) a back flow valve. Two air holes and tubing were added to decrease the internal air pressure of the urinal while the animal was lying. The apparatus performed satisfactorily through 38 days of testing, during hot and cold temperatures (winter and summer), and on dry grass and green pastures. Copyright © 1963.
