Abstract
A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for alias cancellation in two-dimensional (2-D) quadrature-mirror-filter (QMF) banks. It requires the product of the polyphase matrices associated with the analysis and synthesis banks to be 2-D pseudocirculant. The conditions for eliminating phase or magnitude distortion are derived. A method for obtaining perfect reconstruction is suggested. The pseudocirculant property also arises in 2-D block filtering. The results can be generalized to higher dimensions. Keywords
