Abstract
Recent Guban initiatives in the biological sciences have focused on lirnited, intensive research, for example, sugar cane tissue culture, interferon, hybrid cattle, tropical fruits, and yeast biosynthetic pathways, Equally important are widely based science education programs at all levels, induding a zoological park and botanical garden for the general public. Other developments include an environmental protection policy and research on the systematics and ecology of native flora and fauna. In 1983 NACIC-NASEX (North American Guban Scientific Exchange) was established to encourage communication among scholars with mutual scientific interests, especially in the biological and biomedical sciences. Keywords
