Metazoan Parasites of Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus) from the North Slope of Canada and Alaska

Abstract
Metazoan parasites (14 spp.) were recovered from 128 S. alpinus from the north slope of Canada and Alaska [USA] collected between March 31, 1971 and Nov. 5, 1972. The parasites consisted of 1 monogenean (Tetraonchus alaskensis), 4 digeneans (Brachyphallus crenatus, Crepidostomum farionis, Bunodera luciopercae, Phyllodistomum sp.), 4 cestodes (Cyathocephalus truncatus, Bothrimonus sturionis, Eubothrium (? crassum), Proteocephalus sp.), 2 nematodes (Cystidicola stigmatura, Bulbodacnitis alpinus), 1 acanthocephalan (Metechinorhynchus salmonis) and 2 copepods (Salmincola edwardsii, S. carpionis). Of the parasites recovered, 1 was described as a new species (B. alpinus Mudry and McCart, 1974) and 3 others are new North American host records (T. alaskensis, C. stigmatura and C. truncatus). All of the localities sampled are range extensions of the parasites found.
