Abstract
A simple -channel picture of the dominant non-Pomeranchuk contributions to the amplitude in meson--baryon scattering leads to (i) a physical interpretation of the parameter in Reggeon and tadpole couplings to baryons, and (ii) selection rules for baryon couplings to mesons and baryons.
