The Dynamics and Thermal Stability of Planetary Nebulae

Abstract
Dynamical models of planetary nebulae are constructed utilizing a semi-analytical approach. The influence of the various physical parameters upon the thermal histories of the expanding nebular shells is investigated. Also, the thermal stability of the nebulae is rediscussed from a fundamentally new viewpoint. It is demonstrated that thermal instability may occur early in the lifetime of a nebula provided that it evolves through a high temperature phase, presumably resulting from mechanical heating associated with the ejection process.
