Abstract
The patient studied had an acquired epidermal sensitivity to butesin. 6 homologous P-aminobenzoic acid esters gave positive patch tests. The reactions were negative to the non-esterified p-aminobenzoic acid and to the alcohols. The specificity range did not extend to isomers with the amino group in the meta position and to compounds with different substitutions in the alkyl side chain. The narrow range of specificity is similar to that of serological immune reactions. Quantitative testing revealed that the skin may become more sensitive to related compounds than to the original sensitizer. Compounds with straight alkyl side chains were more effective than the iso homologues. Keywords
