Abstract
The measurement of insoluble plutonium-239 in the human lung by external counting is now used routinely at A.E.E., Winfrith. The choice of detectors and problems of calibration are reviewed and a brief description of the system is given. The limits of detection for plutonium in the lung depend critically upon the body build of the contaminated subject. The limit of detection of the routine system is of the order of 0.005 μCi 239 Pu.
