Abstract
2-Unsubstituted 1-pyrroline 1-oxides are rapidly oxidised by iron(III) chloride solutions to yield hydroxamic acids, whilst 2-substituted 1-pyrroline 1-oxides are much more difficult to oxidise. Cyclic hydroxylamines are oxidised as readily as the 1-pyrroline 1-oxides and also yield hydroxamic acids. Keywords
