Abstract
Recent effective-Lagrangian formulations of the U(1) axial anomaly are examined to determine their consistency and the extent to which the fundamental quantum-chromodynamics theory is replicated. One formulation is shown to possess the desired properties, and some difficulties with two other formulations are pointed out. Keywords
