The Load of Lethal Mutations in White and Negro Brazilian Populations I. First Survey

Abstract
Data on the inbreeding effect on mortality in different samples including whites, Mulattoes and Negroes living in Central Brazil are presented. This effect is higher among Mulattoes and Negroes than among whites. The mean number of lethal equivalents per season may be assumed to be lower than 1 in the Caucasian fraction of the population and roughly around 9 in the Negro fraction. Some problems related to this situation are discussed.
