Abstract
The temporal and spatial responses in arbitrary photochromic materials illuminated with monochromatic light are investigated phenomenologically. A pair of partial differential equations is proposed and a material parameter representing the rapidity of photochromic responses is related to the HD characteristics. Results of calculations show that the distribution of the optical constants are dependent on position in darkening samples and that the responses are generally faster in bleaching materials. Keywords
