Abstract
In order to verify the occurrence of downy mildew races of lettuce in Israel, differential hosts were used as recommended by Tjallingii and Rodenburg. The existence of 2 races, No. 1 and No. 3, was established in this manner; the latter race appeared more frequently among the isolates tested. The mode of inheritance was determined by studying the segregation of F2 and F3 progenies, derived from resistant x susceptible crosses. Most ratios obtained in both generations demonstrate the simple dominance of the resistant reaction (3:1).Keywords
