Inheritance of Resistance in Lettuce to Race 3 of Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae Reg.)1,2

Abstract
In order to verify the occurrence of downy mildew races of lettuce in Israel, differential hosts were used as recommended by Tjallingii and Rodenburg. The existence of 2 races, No. 1 and No. 3, was established in this manner; the latter race appeared more frequently among the isolates tested. The mode of inheritance was determined by studying the segregation of F2 and F3 progenies, derived from resistant x susceptible crosses. Most ratios obtained in both generations demonstrate the simple dominance of the resistant reaction (3:1).
