A comparison of voluntary and involuntary patients in a state hospital.

Abstract
A study of 78 involuntary and 47 voluntary patients three months after admission to a state hospital revealed significant differences in presenting symptoms and in the rate of elopement from the hospital. The data support maintaining procedures for involuntary hospitalization, but also suggest the need for alternatives in view of the high elopement rate.
