Abstract
For 2 yrs. exptl. plantings have been made in northern Idaho using safflower, Carthamus tinctorius, as a winter pheasant and Hungarian partridge food. The plant resists wind, hail and heavy winter snows and the seeds are available during midwinter. In feeding trials penned pheasants were maintained on a diet of safflower during two months of winter weather. It apparently rates high in palatability for pheasants. Recommendations are given for growing safflower in Idaho as a winter game bird food. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
