Abstract
"Colorado 9" kills flies at 0.1 ml. of 5% petroleum soln. per cubic meter of air space. It is also lethal for the potato and tomato psyllid, Paratrioza cockerelli. The compd. was dissolved in xylene at the rate of 1 lb. to 1 qt. of xylene, and emulsified by adding 1 part Triton 100X to 50 parts of the above mixture. Five applications of 1 lb. of compd. to 100 gals, of water were made during the Irish Cobbler potato season. The spray caused no plant injury. The treated plots yielded 313.2 bushels/acre, and the untreated plots 22.8 bushels/acre. "Colorado 9" was lethal to Gassyparia spuria. When used on leguminous plants in high cones., it had no depressing effect on bacterial nodules of legumes; this is in contrast to the effect of DDT.Keywords
