Music Therapy Applications in a Skilled and Intermediate Care Nursing Home Facility

Abstract
Music therapy was provided to 21 elderly clients in a nursing home setting. The predominant diagnosis for these clients was probable Alzheimer's Disease. Client behavior suggested Ulat these individuals were functioning at various stages of the disease. An individual client and two small groups (n = 4) were seen weekly for 112 hour, and a larger bell group (n = 12) was seen twice weekly for one hour, all over a ten-week period. Progress as the result of treatment occurred across one individual and three groups with improvement in attending skills (active participation) noted across the 10 week period. Music therapy can help to contribute to im- proved qualily of life among the elderly.Keywords
