The electronic structure of nickel-iron alloys

Abstract
Calculations of the effect of electron-magnon interactions on the electronic structure of nickel are extended to nickel-iron alloys by varying the electron concentration. A realistic tight-binding d band is used and the Coulomb interaction parameter is fixed at the value determined for pure Ni. It is found that the strongly ferromagnetic state, in which the majority-spin d band is full, becomes unstable at about 50% Fe, thus explaining the observed deviation from the Slater-Pauling curve.
