Abstract
Time-resolved population measurements using the interferometric methods were made on the populations of He(23S) and electrons in He at 1 atm excited by a fast electrical discharge. A model was developed that integrated the time-dependent circuit equations for the discharge and the kinetic equations for the atomic and molecular species and the electrons. The measured absolute values of the populations and their temporal behaviors are well described by the model. Keywords
